Left + center + right aligned navbar items

Hi, Bootstrap newbie here. Here is what I need to do: Fixed top full-width menu with a set of icons on the left, a set of icons on the right and main menu items centered, like this:



I can manage the left and right floating navigation parts, but the center items are giving me trouble. So what is the best way to create a Bootstrap menu like this? Also, for the icons, should I use images, responsive images, background images...?
One more thing, is it possible to have a slightly different set of menu items when the menu is collapsed vs. when it's expanded?
